Cast silicon bronzes and silicon brasses

Dr. Dmitri Kopeliovich

According to the Unified Numbering System (UNS):

Cast Silicon Bronzes (Silicon Brasses) are copper alloys, containing 3.0-4.5% of silicon (Si) and up to 20% of zinc (Zn) as major alloying elements. Cast Silicon Bronzes are designated with the numbers from C87000 through C87999.

Cast Silicon Bronzes may contain manganese (Mn) and phosphorous (P) as additional alloying elements.

Silicon Bronzes have mono-phase structure (α-phase).

Cast Silicon Bronzes have moderate mechanical strength combined with very good aqueous and atmospheric corrosion resistance and very good weldability.

Cast Silicon Bronzes are used for manufacturing decorative items, bearings, window hardware, gears, impellers, pump and valve components, plumbing fittings.
